Our client based in Rainham is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join them on a permanent basis.

Title: Mechanical Engineer Reports To: Operations Manager Salary from: £35,000 per annum

Summary of Position: 

A Mechanical Engineer is required to support the upkeep and maintenance of specialist production equipment and machinery. This position is ideally suited to a maintenance engineer but it should be stressed that you will be required to undertake other works as required. You should be comfortable working as part of a maintenance team, bringing with you skills that complement the daily mechanical and electrical functions of the team, ensuring performance targets are met and operational efficiency is maximised.

Applications from ex-military personnel (Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Marines) can be equally relevant for this role and are strongly encouraged if they are familiar with basic electricity and pneumatics.

Key Roles & Responsibilities: General Machine Maintenance with the addition of the following as required:

• Support for the Planned Preventative Maintenance System and respond to equipment faults • Support the Total Productive Manufacturing initiative on site (TPM) • Accountable for all mechanical equipment on site • Designing / amending maintenance strategies, procedures and methods • Designing maintenance strategies, procedures and methods for new installations • Accountable for the installation of new parts ensuring equipment is working correctly • Diagnosing faults, breakdown problem, troubleshooting all machinery and equipment • Carrying out quality inspections on jobs • Liaising with other engineering and production colleagues • Arranging specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components • Controlling maintenance tools, stores, equipment and costs • Dealing with and responding to emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs • Working within Health & Safety policies and procedures and making improvements • Working with specialist equipment, such as programmable machines • Ensuring there is continuous cover for the machinery in case of breakdowns • Utilisation of the appropriate tools required to complete each task such as a lathe, milling machine, surface grinder and power tools • Commission modifications and alterations to existing plant and equipment, to improve line efficiencies

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Required:

Essential Knowledge & Skills:

• Proactive approach, displaying a can do / will do attitude • Time Served Engineer• Mechanically biased with some demonstrable electrical experience• Experience of working with pneumatics • Experience in mechanical drives and mechanical set up of complex drive systems • Experience of maintaining machine shop facilities (ie.;– lathe, miller, pillar drills etc) • Ability to interpret drawings, blue-prints, manuals, sketches or verbal instructions• Experience of working in manufacturing industry would be an advantage• Work flexibly to support colleagues within both engineering and other departments.• Good verbal and written communication skills• Possess detailed analytical and problem solving skills• Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment

Desirable Qualifications:

• NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) • Apprenticeship served (or similar) • Manufacturing Engineering • Production Engineering

Working Hours: Hours are usually 40 hours per week Monday to Friday during the day. Engineers are responsible for minimising downtime, which can sometimes mean working unsociable hours by being reactive to the needs of the business. You may be required to work alternating shifts during normal business hours. You may be required to work during factory shutdown periods to complete scheduled maintenance.
